Minister JK Kim of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources (MOTIR) attended the inaugural Engineers’ Day ceremony in Seoul on October 30, 2026. Approximately 100 people attended, including National Assembly Speaker Cho Jung-sik, National Assembly Member Choi Soo-jin, members of the National Academy of Engineering of Korea (NAEK), and representatives from industry, academia, and research institutions.
Minister Kim delivered opening remarks and presented nine honors, comprising orders and medals of merit and government commendations. Recipients included Hong Tae-min, Research Fellow at Hanwha Ocean, who received the Bronze Tower Order of Industrial Service Merit for helping strengthen the competitiveness of Korea’s shipbuilding industry.
Minister Kim emphasized that MOTIR would lead practical changes to give members of the engineering community more opportunities to take on challenges and grow, and ensure their contributions are fairly assessed and rewarded.
